The EnAccord String Quartet was
founded in 1998 and has ever since developed into one of the most appraised
young quartets of the Netherlands. The quartet is praised for its intimate,
warm sound, expressive style and dynamic capability.
The quartet has mastered a superb
string quartet repertoire, combines famous pieces with masterpieces that are
less well known, likes to work together with contemporary composers and has
already premiered with a number of compositions. The quartet has extensive
concert experience and regularly performs at home and abroad.
Prizes
The EnAccord String Quartet is the
only quartet in The Netherlands that was to receive public acknowledgement
twice by the renowned Kersjes Fonds – in 2008 they were awarded a grant for
young talents, and they received the prestigious Kersjes Award in 2010. The
quartet won several international awards, among which were the second price at
the ‘5th Trondheim
International Chamber Music Competition’ and the third price at the
‘Internationaler Joseph Haydn Wettbewerb’.
French Record Label
The quartet will record their debute
CD with the French label ZigZag Territoires. The CD will contain works of Felix
Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
Inspiring Collaborations and Venues
The EnAccord String Quartet performs
with, among others, the cellist Valentin Erben, violist Hartmut Rohde, oboist
Bart Schneemann and pianist Severin von Eckardstein. The quartet performed in
Amman, Budapest, Geneva, Istanbul, Loro Ciufenna and Siena, amongst other
places, and in Carnegie Hall, New York.
Extraordinary
Instruments
The EnAccord String Quartet plays on
19th century French
instruments, which have been made available to them by the National Foundation
of Musical Instruments (NMF). The violins and viola are made by J.B. Vuillaume
and the violoncello was made by P. & H. Silvestre.
Education
Between 2003 and 2006 the quartet
studied at the Dutch String Quartet Academy (NSKA). The quartet followed master
classes with members of renowned quartets, such as the Amadeus Quartet, Borodin
Quartet, Kronos Quartet, Quatuor Mosaïques and the Takacs Quartet. The quartet
graduated at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne in 2010, where they were
coached intensively for two years by the members of the Alban Berg Quartett.
